As Jacobeans we all live in the European Union and although it may seem that Brussels is pretty far away, European policies influence us a lot. Dairy products in the supermarket are only that cheap because the EU gives huge subsidies to European farmers and streets are built with European money. On April 30, 2007, the US-Canadian artist EliBornstein presented his gift to JacobsUniversity Bremen - asculpture named, "Tripart Hexaplane Construction No. 1." The ceremony tookplace in front of the IRC, close to the location where the sculpture will stand.After speeches given by Arts and Literature professors Isabel Wünsche and PaulCrowther, Bornstein spoke about how he designed the sculpture and why hedecided to make such a generous gift.
