Even the most casual follower of Africannews could not have failed to notice the media frenzy on Zimbabwe in the pasttwo weeks.  As I read or listened toreport after report, from CNN, to The Economist I could not help but wonder ifthat small Southern African State, currently not at war, had become the newIraq or Sudan. What is the hullabaloo all about?

 Gender equality, gender roles, and gender research are concepts that are understood and discussed differently in each disciplinary field, and have their own history of implementation in each country and culture. That is why it is hard to exaggerate the complexity of "gender" issues and the importance to discuss them. The Gender Awareness Week (GAW), conducted at Jacobs University Bremen from 8th till 18th of March 2007, aimed to create a platform for discussion of this multifaceted question.
