On Thursday February 12th we embarked on a trip across Ethiopia, without having to leave the Jacobs bubble. That’s one of the things I love the most about this campus; you can learn about different cultures from the people that know them better than anyone else.

The Ethiopian community prepared a presentation to guide us through their very diverse country and tell us about their history, which included King Menelik, Lucy, and castles that used to be covered in precious stones and marble.

For weeks the Ethiopian community rehearsed so that during the CID dances from the different regions, music, traditional clothing and of course food would be perfect. The wide range of food was impressive! Among them were the classical sourdough flatbread, injera, and on top of it you could get everything from chicken to lentils to carrots and chickpeas, all cooked with delicious spices. Eating with your hands was, of course, part of the fun.

The enthusiasm put into the CID by the Ethiopians on campus was reciprocated by the whole Jacobs community, and it was evidenced by how crowded the Mercator Common Room was and how happy all the attendees were by the end of the night.
