From running laps for a good cause, to international fair as intercultural flair, then speeches and performances as entertainment in between -hosting an event such as ‘Sport meets Culture’ on campus is certainly a great idea. No doubt the participants and organizers, in particular CAIA, had put a lot of effort into realizing it. However, how much good will do you need to make up for insufficient organization and a lack of proper communication?

February 19th- Near the Ocean Lab, hundreds of liters of an eerie green substance (which looks like pea soup, but is actually algae) photosynthesize CO2 in elongated plastic tubes. Students sit in courses, contemplating the viability of sustainable energy sources, political barriers to their implementation, nuclear fusion, and the impact of global warming. Meanwhile, at the colleges (currently draped with snow) one may see a picture that is not at all unusual: plenty of open windows. This occurrence might be pardoned if one presumed that Jacobs students liked it cold, but experience and utilities bills suggest that the heaters, despite cold air flowing and students being in class, are burning hot. And this isn’t the only instance of eco-hypocrisy visible on campus.

After more than two months since the closing down of our only on campus student bar, theOtherSide, a common consensus has still not emerged between the administration, the leadership, and the bar team on what the next step is and when the bar will be reopened again.
