After more than two months since the closing down of our only on campus student bar, theOtherSide, a common consensus has still not emerged between the administration, the leadership, and the bar team on what the next step is and when the bar will be reopened again.

“There are negotiations now with the admin of the possibility of moving the bar to a new place. However, no decision has been made on that step or a decision on when the bar will open, the issue actually has not been totally resolved yet,” Bassem Bassil told PulseofTheWorld on behalf of the bar team.

Larissa Kühler, Director of Campus Activities and Intercultural Affairs, admitted that negotiations have been and will continue to take place this week, and a renovation plan is yet to be approved.

She suggested that if money is set aside for renovation, a long-term solution should be pursued.

“It has been seven years since the bar was last renovated,” she told PulseofTheWorld, “and we hope to create a new location and atmosphere for students to socialise.”

One of the locations being discussed is the Student Activity Centre (SAC). If the plan were to be approved, there would be possibility of more variation in the events that would take place, for instance, more live musical events at Hall 3.

Both the bar team and the administration jointly decided to close down theOtherSide in December, due to a number of reasons, including drunkenness of students, loss of revenue, and neighbourhood complaints.
