Victory and Defeat for IUB Basketball |

On the second weekend in December IUB faced a double header against the currently number four team from Bremerhaven, and the number two team from Weyhe 3. The first game took place in Bremerhaven on Saturday night. Both games leave our team with very close results: Bremerhaven - IUB 57:59, IUB - Weyhe III 52:58.
IUB tied the game in the 3rd minute of the 4th quarter. From then on the game stayed in equilibrium, until Bremerhaven scored a three-pointer with 1 minute and 29 seconds to go to lead by three. Yani Galyov made two free throws to get close, and Nils Bormann collected two points on a short-ranged jump shot with 20 seconds to go.
Bremerhaven missed the following shot, fouled Arvydas Bloze who had taken the rebound, and called for a timeout after Bloze had split the freethrows. With two seconds left, the ball was inbounded but the attempted three-pointer could be blocked by N.Bormann. Overall, Y. Galyov scored a game-high 21 points, and Rudi Pruszter gave great support from the bench by collecting numerous rebounds.
In the following game on Sunday, IUB had trouble finding into the game into the first quarter but actually found a way to beat the narrow and huge zone defense from Weyhe in the second. With only a five-point deficit at half-time, and a great crowd backing up the team, some confidence existed for the outcome of the game. However, after a desastrous 3rd quarter which was lost by 13 points, overshadowed by a technical fould against IUB's bench, and only saw one fieldgoal on the university team site, a late fourth quarter run turned out to be not sufficient in order to beat the long and physically very strong team from Weyhe, so the first home loss was suffered.
Y.Galyov again showed an enormous game by making 27 points and numerous steals but missed his free-throw accuracy as well as support by the centers A.Bloze and N.Bormann who did not find into the game. Even though S.Harizanov showed again his three-pointer skills, Weyhe had more luck with shots falling this time, and was the deserving winner of the evening.
