![]() Last night the World Trade Center in Bremen hosted an election party where IUB students made their mark. Professor Dooley and two American students shared their views on the election. Organised by Bremen United States Center, WTC Bremen, Carl-Schurz-Gesellschaft, IUB and the United States Consular Agency, the election party kicked off at eleven o'clock. A jazz band provided a calming prelude before the night's exciting events. Andrew Knott and Leon Keefer then took the floor and introduced the surprisingly large audience to the ugly side of the presidential campaigns. With numerous ads and flash movies circulating on the internet they managed to give a balanced picture, depicting both candidates equally. Next was Professor Brendan Dooley, who shed some light on the vote from the historical, economical, gender and international perspectives - all in 'under ten minutes'. He successfully managed to do so and entertained the crowd well. As for the gender perspective he just referred to the fact that neither of the candidates is a woman. Dooley is, however, optimistically looking forward to Laura Bush vs. Hillary Clinton in 2008.The election party was well frequented: drinks, tasty hamburgers and hotdogs made for a nice atmosphere to discuss politics. Though the race in the United States of America is still on, Bremen clearly turned blue with 89% of those present and voting preferring John F. Kerry, while the remaining 19 persons expressed their support for the incumbent George W. Bush. For most students who did take advantage of the party downtown, the 4:10 train ended their politically-minded night and carried them back to campus. Still, many students sacrificed their beauty sleeps in an, albeit useless, attempt to see what the outcome would be. Views: 105
