The Humboldt University in Berlin offers some graduate programs in the social sciences that sound highly appealing, offering students the chance to earn a masters of Arts in European Studies or Arts in Trans-Atlantic Studies in just one year. The focus of the Euromasters and Trans-Atlantic Masters program is politics, policy and society in a European and Trans-Atlantic perspective. The program also includes the opportunity to study abroad in one of Humboldt University's partner institutions: University of Bath (EM), University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (TAM), Freie Universität Berlin, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Institut d'études Politiques de Paris-Sciences Po, Charles University, Prague, Università degli Studi di Siena, University of Washington, Seattle. The Humboldt University in Berlin has surely one of the most beautiful campuses one could imagine. It is located in the heart of Berlin, and was founded in 1810 by Wilhelm von Humboldts. The university itself has a very prestigious history and many famous Nobel laureates chose Humboldt University as their place of work. The admission requirements are a university degree in the social sciences and very good language ability in English and either German, French, Spanish or Italian. The reason for the language skills being that the Euromasters & Trans-Atlantic Masters Programs are module based joint-programs between the University of Bath and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Humboldt University. Students begin their studies with the core module in either Bath or Chapel Hill with an introduction to European and Trans-Atlantic Politics. Students can then choose to come to Berlin for modules focusing on the German political system in the changing context of the new Europe. The final module is spent writing the Masters Thesis. One of the drawbacks is the financial side since the tuition is £4500 for EU citizens and £8250 for non-EU citizens for Euromasters and $11000 for Trans-Atlantic Masters. However, the university promises support in the scholarship search. |
